Cadet Field House Renovations
United States Air Force Academy, CO
The Cadet Field House Renovation is an extensive update to an indoor athletic complex that was built in the late 1960s. It includes a basketball arena, an ice rink, and a multi-purpose room along with ample seating for
spectators in each of the sports areas. The building has three main levels: spectator level, participant level, and
multi-purpose level. The spectator level serves as the public access space with its main entrance on the south side of the building. The participant level is the floor elevation of the basketball arena and ice rink. This level also includes the administration offices and locker rooms. The lowest level is the multi-purpose level which includes the track and field area.
Phase One of the Cadet Field House Renovation focuses on updating the mechanical system to a geothermal system and providing LED lighting in the basketball and hockey areas. The hockey area will be fully redesigned, with an entirely new layout on the participant level to facilitate the hockey program. New press areas will be added at the top of the stands, creating a more contemporary space. All of the restrooms in the building will be renovated as well, bringing the building up to current code standards.
HB&A is also contracted to design multiple renovation projects throughout the entire building in an additional two phases.
